It's January which means Winter. Here in the Midwest it's been in the 60's and more like Spring. I came up with this little craft when it was actually colder and thought it was the perfect way to re-use the leprechaun hats I had in my stash. Not to mention that they are cute and kid friendly!!
I started out by giving the hat a coat of Mod Podge to seal all that glitter. Let it air dry which doesn't take long.
Once the Mod Podge is dry then give the hat a coat of black paint. I used Liquitex. It's a lot thicker and goes so much farther than regular craft paint. If all you have is craft paint that will work too. But you might need 2 coats. After that paint dries decorate the hat any way you want. I used ribbon I had in my stash. It's black and white with snow flakes on it. I think I got it at Joann's. I also went through my stash and found some greenery, berries and wooden snowflakes. But you're only limited by your imagination.
This is a simple craft that is kid friendly and a great way to use up bits and pieces from your stash.
TIPS
There are a few things to remember when making this craft. The leprechaun hats are from Dollar Tree so they are very thin plastic. I don't recommend using a heat gun to dry the paint. Because the plastic is so thin, the heat will melt it.
Also be careful using hot glue for the same reason.
The decorations can be almost anything. Sticks and pinecones from the yard. Bits from your craft stash and even baking soda and glue to make a thicker snow. It would be a great way to include a nature walk into your craft.
I hope you've enjoyed this craft tutorial. There will be more to come! So be sure to follow the blog and if you try this little craft let me know in the comments!
