The Perfect Baked Potato

How To Make The Perfect Baked Potato

For me, there's nothing more delicious than a fluffy, buttery baked potato.  I love them so much that they were the only thing I ate for the last month of one of my pregnancies.  Needless to say my son loves potatoes as much as I do.

I always thought baked potatoes were simple to make (and they are) but they can also be tricky.  In the microwave they get mealy.  In the oven there could be spots that don't cook all the through.  But I have the solution for you.  A baked potato that comes out with crispy skin and a fluffy, delicious interior.  And it's so simple you'll wonder why you never did it before.

Steps To The Perfect Potato

1.  Picking your potato.  Russet is best.  Be sure there are no blemishes and the potato is firm.

2.   Scrub the potato clean.  That way you can eat the crispy skin.

3.  Cut a cross or an X in the potato.  NO OIL, NO SALT

4.  Cook the potato in an oven preheated to 450ยบ.

5.  Cook the potato for 90 minutes.  Yes 90 minutes.  It sounds like a long time - and it is.  But it will give you a crispy skin and a fluffy interior.

6.  Once the potato is cooked, cut the potato open and top it with your favorite toppings.

In Britain they call these Jacket Potatoes and their favorite toppings are beans, cheese and fried onions.  But I prefer the American traditional toppings - butter, cheese, sour cream and bacon bits.  As with most of my recipes you can use your imagination and make it your own.
